Abstract: . . .  BOUT THIS PUBLICATION : A Closer Look at Allergies is a joint publication of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America and the National Pharmaceutical Council. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) is the premier patient organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with asthma and allergies , and their families through education, advocacy and research. AAFA, a not-for-profit organization founded in 1953, provides practical information, community based services, support and referrals through a national network of chapters and educational support groups. AAFA also raises funds for asthma care and research. Since 1953, the National Pharmaceutical Council (NPC) has sponsored and conducted scientific, evidence-based analyses of the appropriate use of pharmaceuticals and the clinical and economic value of pharmaceutical innovation. NPC provides educational resources to a variety of health care stakeholders, including patients, clinicians, payers and policy makers.
